THE Scarlet & Gray Fashion Show benefiting NC4K!

This Saturday, July 26th, I am excited to be a part of a wonderful and inspiring event!

Nellie's Catwalk 4 Kids is hosting the THE Scarlet & Gray Fashion Show at the Ohio Union at OSU (1739 N High Street Columbus, 43210) for all ages!

This marks NC4K's 8th Columbus fashion show and they're looking to surpass their $200,000 fundraising goal! The evening will include a tailgate hour, silent and Chinese auction, the fashion show and a chance to WIN a trip to HAWAII and DISNEY WORLD!!!

I've already bought my tickets for a chance to win ($25 each)! Who wouldn't want to go to Hawaii or Disney?

The Tailgate will include complimentary Brats and mac & cheese from Bob Evans and a cash bar.

Check out the video below of one of their past fashion shows!!

The attire for the event is casual and college game day gear! An OSU jersey and jeans is the perfect combo or a red top and jeans as stated on NC4K's website.

Parking will be in the attached garage and will be $5 (cash only).

The fashion show will begin at 7:00 p.m. (which I will be in!!) and will go until about 9:00 p.m. with an intermission. If you'd like to continue the party, head to BW3's party room on High Street for the after party once the event concludes!

Nellie's Catwalk 4 Kids helps make life a little easier for kids and teens with cancer by creating a community of support and resources for pediatric cancer families.

I had the pleasure of meeting the founder and CEO of Nellie's Catwalk 4 Kids when she was a junior in high school! Can you believe that?! A high schooler was looking to turn her passion into helping others into a nonprofit organization and her dream came. She is a true inspiration to all and we are lucky to have such a great individual in our community.

Hear more from Nellie Krumlauf below.

To purchase your tickets to the event, your raffle tickets to win a trip to Hawaii or Disney, and to find out more information on NC4K, please visit www.nc4k.org.

Wearable Wednesday: Office Hours!

I recently went to The Limited as I was in dire need of a few new work outfits!

I am not much of a pants woman in the office, but I love skirts and blouses. It's a good thing The Limited was filled with so many varieties of tops and skirts in different colors, patterns and solids!

With a work trip to Chicago coming up, I picked up a few of these looks below to take with me! Which ones are your favorite?

A Fun Year at The Memorial!

2014 proved to be a great year at The Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio!

Not only was the weather amazing, but I was able to volunteer at one of the concessions to benefit Kinder Key of Nationwide Children's Hospital and attend another day!

From people watching, to cold beers, to great golf, I sure did have a great time.

This past Friday, I volunteered with a few other Kinder Key ladies at the concession stand on hole 16.

It brought back memories of my first job in college working the beverage cart at New Albany Links Golf Course. I loved that job. What couldn't you love? Being outside, driving a golf court and making pretty good tips! Ahhhh life was good.

So at the tournament, we were pouring beer, making sandwiches and cashing people out. It was a blast.

Not only that, but Jen Wallace (Kinder Key member) and I had the opportunity to present two Kinder Key checks totaling over $288,000 to Nationwide Children's Hospital on 10TV.

Watch the segment below!

On Sunday, Kevin and I attended to watch the final round. What a day! Local celebs were spotted such as Cameron Mitchell and fam, former Columbus Crew player Frankie Hejduk and not local but Bubba Watson's wife watching her husband almost win the tourney on the side of green #10,

We were invited (on behalf of my vendor Discover) to their Hospitality Suite on hole 16. Drinks, food and a great view were all provided!

Check out a few of my pictures of golfers Phil Mickelson, Adam Scott and Bubba Watson playing on 16!

Congrats to Hideki Matsuyama on his 2014 Memorial Tournament win!...Until next year!

Wearable Wednesday: What to Wear to The Memorial Tournament

Happy Wednesday!

The Memorial Tournament has started (at least the practice rounds) which means most of us will be attending the well-known golf tournament this weekend. Not only is it a fun place to watch golf pros and people watch, but it's a place to be seen.

From house parties to walking the greens, what will you be wearing?

Note to girls, leave your heels at home. You are walking around on a hilly golf course. So what do you wear?

Flats, wedges, Sperry's, or sandals for your tootsies and for the rest of you? Check out a few of my picks from The Limited that I took in Stylinty's Style Stage.

From collared tanks, to sundresses, to shorts to capris, we all know the ladies of Columbus love to dress up and look their best at this event!

What's your favorite look seen here?

I'll be donning a yellow volunteer shirt and Khaki's as I'm volunteering for Nationwide Children's Hospital on Friday at the concession on 16! Stop by and say hello! Sunday is when I can look the part as Kevin and I are attending to watch one lucky and talented man take home the win.

Cheers to another year at the Memorial...let's hope this year stays dry!

Eventing off,
Miss C.S.

Columbus Socialites of the Week: SOS Owners Gretchen Dusseau & Keri Croft

Happy Friday!

Memorial Weekend is here which means lots of BBQs, drinking and unhealthy choices! But it doesn't have to be. As one of my Columbus Socialites mentions today, you can eat "80% nice and 20% naughty"!

Life is about balance. You can enjoy eating and throwing down some cocktails, but mix it in with moderation and exercise.

I'm excited to feature these two today because I started taking System of Strength classes about a year ago when my friend and fellow Columbus Socialite of the Week Bethany Braden introduced me to the workout.

My first class was CLOCKED with Gretchen. I could have died.

But after sixty minutes of sweat, lots of water and determination that I would get through the class, I had one of the BEST workouts I've ever taken.

System of Strength or SOS is a way of getting strong and staying there. It is a variety of classes that help keep your body transformed and in shape. From cardio class (clocked) to control (weights) to flex (yoga) to high & tight (tightening your "nooks and crannies"), these are just a few of the classes you can take at SOS.

One reason I love this system is because I get bored easily and always have to mix up my workout. I find myself hopping around to different workout classes. But with SOS you can stay at one place and get the mixture of classes you want and your body needs!

So let's meet these ladies who have created a fitness empire here in central Ohio with a few different locations (Grandview, Dublin, Hilliard) to keep YOU moving!

GETTING TO KNOW...GRETCHEN DUSSEAU & KERI CROFT, owners and trainers of System of Strength

Miss C.S. - By far Favorite thing to do in Columbus

G: Any outdoor concert at the LC Pavilion. I love music and being outdoors.

K: My family's annual OSU tailgate. It's called Dongergate, and it's an absolute over the top blast. We wait for it all year long.

Miss C.S. - Favorite Restaurant in the City:

G: Lindey's Patio. Its been my favorite ever since I was a little girl. Although if I could bring the Kahiki back I would!

K: Anywhere that has a liquor license.

Miss C.S. - Favorite Hidden Gem:

G: 16 Bit (The arcade bar on 4th.) I love any place who takes an idea and makes it slightly different.

K: I'm not sure how hidden it is, but the Red Door Tavern on 5th for sure. There is nothing fancy about it and showering isn't mandatory (definite plus in my book). The beer is always cold, they have a good grilled chicken salad and the people watching is beyond entertaining. Anything goes at the Red Door.

Miss C.S. - Favorite Shop/Store:

G: Second Chance on 5th...although I'm a sucker for Easton's VSX, LuLu and Athleta stores all lined up side by side. I have a love for fitness gear, but I have to because it's my everyday uniform.

K: Let me start by saying that I despise the mall and I hate shopping at stores in the mall. Because of this, I am grateful for the cool boutiques in Columbus. A few of my favorites are Ladybird, Thread, Rowe, Sole Classics, and Milk Bar. There are several others, but these are the ones I frequent. Oh yeah, Bungalow Home is in there as well. They have great neutral home furnishings, but their jewelry is really unique and cool too. On another note, I just found a great new nail salon on Zollinger and Northwest called SoPo. It's very cute and clean. Definitely worth a try.

Miss C.S. - Best Party, Event or Scene in the City:

G: Upper Arlington's 4th of July

K: I am more of a homebody, but my friend just talked me into going to "Get Right" at Skully's a few weeks ago. I believe they have it once a month. It's all hip hop, all night long and I was in heaven. Every song that came on was like a little gift. It felt like Christmas in May!

Miss C.S. – Charity of Choice:

G: Toys For Tots. It breaks my heart to think of a child without a present on Christmas morning.

K: How can you pick a favorite? Anything that raises money for a good cause is OK in my book. Right now I am on the committee for the Celebration of Learning at the Metropolitan Library. It's a large fundraiser that's held every year to raise money for education and the continued improvement of the Columbus libraries. I'm very grateful to be a part of it.

Miss C.S. - Best Quality of a Person:

G: Sense of Humor

K: Confidence

Miss C.S. – What is one thing people may not know about you:

G: I know some sign language because one of my sister's is deaf and autistic.

K: I was once a body double for Angelina Jolie.

Miss C.S. – How long have you two been friends and how did you meet?

G: Keri was brought to one of my "boot camp" style classes 2 years ago and we connected immediately. We had busy lives and wanted to create a system of classes that worked effectively together to bring quick results. With in 2 weeks we were discussing a business plan together for System Of Strength.

K: We met several years ago at one of Gretchen's "hellacious" workouts, and the rest is history.

Miss C.S. – What made you start your own fitness studio together:

G: Keri and I both had a back ground and passion in fitness. We wanted to give people what we always looked for in a workout but felt wasn't being offered out there. We wanted 1 hour to accomplish several fitness goals. We wanted it to be creative. We wanted my inner athlete to be awoken not just in high intensity intervals, but in strength, stretching and small muscle movements, and we didn't want to go to 6 different studios to do all of that. So we took everything we wanted from a workout and created it under one studio.

K: Gretchen and I have a great chemistry. First of all, I really like her. Secondly, I trust her. As a bonus, we are both sickos when it comes to exercise so we share that bond as well. We also have the same passion for people and for creating a "system of strength" in their lives.

Miss C.S. – What is your favorite workout class at SOS to teach or take:

G: To choose your favorite class from the system is like choosing a favorite child, they are all great for different reasons. But CLOCKED really pulls its weight with fat shredding results. It's always a challenge so the hour you are taking it you regret being there, but the hours following turn that regret to feeling stronger, accomplished and fit. You have an after burn of up 24-38 hours after you complete the class. You work hard in that class and earn every result you get.

K: I love them all, and my answer to this question will probably change every few months. At this moment I would say High & Tight because I see crazy results on so many people that take it religiously. It's a game changer, and it will re-define your body.

Miss C.S. – Favorite music to be played during class:

G: I love anything Kanye West. Black Skinhead has the best beat to forge through.

K: Hip Hop (duh)

Miss C.S. - You both are in great shape! Do you always eat healthy? What would be your favorite “cheat meal”:

G: I live a very "balanced" life. I eat 80% nice and 20% naughty. My favorite cheat meal would have to be Goodie shop glazed twist doughnuts. So worth it!

K: Hell no. We are both eaters and drinkers and that is a fact. My favorite cheat meal would be a Tommy's extra crispy cheese pizza with a meatball on the side, side of ranch. Then I would top it off with a large bowl of ice cream with 3-4 toppings, minimum.

Miss C.S. – What is your advice to people that may be intimated to take group classes or haven’t worked out in years:

G: Compete with no one else but yourself. Only you know your injuries, your strengths and weaknesses, listen to your body and step up to your personal challenge. Appreciate the strength you have today, but work to be a better you tomorrow.

K: Whether it's an SOS class or something else in your life, always take the chance. Be the person that's motivated by challenges. Always push yourself into the "discomfort zone". It's imperative for growth, and the alternative is to stay stagnant. Who wants that?

Miss C.S. – Best exercise/or fitness/health advice you have received and can share with CS readers:

G: Always look for a challenge. A lot of people tend to do exercises they feel they are good at, but where there is no struggle there is no strength. Being good at your workout won't get you the same results from a workout you struggle through. If you want to change you need a challenge.

K: Don't try to be perfect. Living a happy and balanced life should be the number one goal, and food and drink are going to be a part of that equation. Try your best to have at least 5 good days out of the 7, and do that over and over again every week. You will start to see results over time as you build up positive equity. There is no quick fix, just slow and steady positive changes that add up to results you can see and feel.

Miss C.S. - Finish the sentence, “If I could do anything in the World, I would...”

G: I would do exactly what I'm doing but on a broader scale.

K: Be Oprah.

Miss C.S. – Why Columbus? (live, work, play – you name it)

G: It's where my roots are. It has a great city life but is also a great place to raise a family. Short North and German Village add such character to the city and are great for a night out. I love the new down town water park area as well.

K: For me, Columbus is the perfect mix of city and country. I lived in Chicago and there's a part of me that really loves the city life. However, I feel like there is more room to breathe in Columbus. I love going on a weekend trip to the city, taking it all in and coming back home again.

Miss C.S. - In ONE word, a Columbus Socialite is:

G: Outgoing

K: Totes adorbs...Obvi! That was three words, but whatevsies.

Thank you so much Gretchen and Keri! You two are true inspirations and I think you could have your own TV Show...move over Bravo TV's Tone It Up Girls! The SOS Girls are here!

For more information on Gretchen, Keri, the other trainers and details on classes, be sure to check out www.systemofstrength.com.

I hope to see you there!

Enjoy your holiday weekend and god bless to the men and women who were lost while serving our country.

Columbus Socialite of the Week: PATRICK DICHTER

Happy Friday! Not only is it Friday, but Birthday Weekend begins! :)

As I approach the age of 31...yikes!...last year, I took inventory of my life. Although I feel very blessed I wanted a new challenge to experience more things, especially travel. I wanted to take 30 trips while I am/was 30. Yesterday I posted an update on this challenge with a link to an article in Capital Style Magazine that was just published in the May/June issue. Read my post HERE.

The reason I talk about this is because my love for travel and my Columbus Socialite of the Week's newest business venture relate.

I met this Columbus Socialite of the Week a few years ago while I was working for Columbus CEO Magazine. He had just moved to Columbus from Colorado to join the team of RevLocal, which provides local search marketing solutions for small businesses at a reasonable price. He helped his company grow from a startup business to Inc. 500.

But that's not it. After a trip overseas with his girlfriend and an unforeseen incident, his passion, hard work and dedication to help businesses grow, was about to take place for his own company that was about to be created.

The Passport Protector. A hardcore passport case to prevent what he went through.

So who is this avid traveler who just launched his business and is looking for your help?

Miss C.S. - By far Favorite thing to do in Columbus:

PD: I love walking around Short North during gallery hop every month.

Miss C.S. - Favorite Restaurant in the City:

PD: Pistacia Vera. Nothing beats brunch on their patio in German Village.

Miss C.S. - Favorite Hidden Gem:

PD: Los Guachos Taqueria. Best authentic Mexican food tucked in a strip mall off Godown road. Go on Wednesday night for $2 Gringas.

Miss C.S. - Favorite Shop/Store:

PD: Pursuit. I love what they represent as a brand and how they’re disrupting the suit market for young professionals.

Miss C.S. - Best Party, Event or Scene in the City:

PD: Catching an outdoor concert at The LC has to be my favorite.

Miss C.S. – Charity of Choice:

PD: The Research Institute of Nationwide Children’s Hospital. I’m on the development board and helping put on The Great Columbus Duck Race & Run this summer. http://columbusduckrace.com/

Miss C.S. - Best Quality of a Person:

PD: Integrity. They do what they said they’re going to do.

Miss C.S. – What is one thing people may not know about you:

PD: I’m fluent in French. I studied the language through high school and undergrad. I also spent a semester in southern France.

Miss C.S. – Tell us the story of why you created The Passport Protector:

PD: We were headed to Europe for a 2-week trip last summer. Unfortunately, my passport got denied as we were boarding for ‘wear and tear.’ We lost 4 days and it cost $2500 to salvage the vacation. So I created a solution – The Passport Protector. It’s a hardcore case with a modern design that’s waterproof and impact resistant. Plus, for every unit sold, we’re donating a portion of sales to study abroad scholarships.

Miss C.S. – The Passport Protector is up and running. How has business been and what are you looking to do with your fundraising goals on IndieGoGo?

PD: Amazing thus far! We launched our crowdfunding campaign over a week ago, and we’ve had over $8,000 in presales, huge press from bloggers and organizations, people wanting in to invest and great overall support. The money from the campaign will go directly to launching manufacturing.

Miss C.S. – Name one thing that every traveler should always have on them:

PD: Do have The Passport Protector! Duh. Truly I think a sense of adventure is more important than anything. One thing to leave behind: your cell phone.

Miss C.S. – My passport is currently missing in my house!!! Any hope of one day creating a beeper/passport finder on The Passport Protector?

PD: Yes! That’s almost as stressful as having it denied. We plan to have future models with a tracking device.

Miss C.S. – One of my favorite shows is Shark Tank! Do you ever see yourself going on the show and asking for investor assistance? If so, which Shark would you love to do business with?!

PD: Obsessed! When the idea for The Passport Protector came to me I actually said, ‘We’re going to be on Shark Tank!’ I love Mark Cuban, but for a consumer product I’d prefer Barbara or Laurie.

Miss C.S. – Favorite destination:

PD: Aix-en-Provence, France, the town where I studied abroad.

Miss C.S. – Favorite travel memory:

PD: Cinque Terre, Italy. The name literally means ‘five lands’ because it’s a string of tiny villages on the coast of Italy. We rented a flat and hiked along the cliffs and vineyards between the towns. The views are unbelievable.

Miss C.S. - Biggest annoyance of travel:

PD: If I had to pick one – the travel bug. I love exploring and seeing new places, but it also makes you wonder if you missed something or leaves you wanting for more.

Miss C.S. – Where is your next travel destination:

PD: Domestic – Telluride, Colorado. Headed home for a wedding. International – Costa Rica. One of our funding levels for The Passport Protector is a ‘research and development’ trip to Jaco Beach. #producttesting #writeoff #joinus :)

Miss C.S. - Finish the sentence, “If I could do anything in the World, I would...”

PD: Run businesses that create social impact and allow the freedom to travel year round.

Miss C.S. – Why Columbus? (live, work, play – you name it)

PD: I tell friends from Denver and my brother in NYC that Columbus is amazing, much to their surprise. Everyone is super friendly, lots to do, vibrant city, etc. Maybe we should keep it a secret?

Miss C.S. - In ONE word, a Columbus Socialite is:

PD: Authentic.

Thank you so much Patrick and I wish you the best. I will be purchasing your protector for myself in hopes to find my passport soon! :)

If you're looking to travel soon, and want to be safe and stylish, purchase your Passport Protector HERE.

Plus, a percentage of sales from each unit will go towards study abroad scholarships to give more people the chance to travel!

Have a great weekend!

Miss C.S.

Travel: 30 in 30 & a Feature in Capital Style

Happy Thursday!

It's been a few days since I've posted due to the job that pays the bills and after work festivities.

But, as I was surfing Facebook today, I saw Capital Style Magazine's post and thought this would be the time I would post on the feature they did on me regarding My 30 trips while I'm 30!. First off, thank you so much to the writer Jane Hawes and the Editor Kristy Eckert! I really appreciate the write up and love that we have your amazing fashion magazine in our community!!

So what was the feature on?

Last year was a turning point for me when I was surprised by family and friends with a surprise 30th Birthday Party!! Anyone that really knows me, knows I LOVE Birthdays!!!! So I was especially ecstatic with this one!

Everyone was dressed in white (including me) due to guest blogger Gretchen M. for planning a "faux white party dinner" which I had told her I wanted to have my own white party for my 30th. I had also mentioned this to my sister who then replied, "you are not allowed to plan your own 30th birthday"!!

Maybe it was all the buzz that P Diddy stirred up years ago when he created his annual Memorial Day White Party in the Hamptons but for whatever reason, I have wanted a white party for the past 10 years!! :)

So after a great party planned by my family and friends, and after turning 30, I decided that I wanted to do something memorable this year. More to come on that in my post on Sunday (My 31st Birthday!!).

But what better way to start off your 30's than trying to travel as much as possible. No kids and no real responsibilities other than work and paying the bills.

So I decided then that I would try and travel to 30 places while I was 30!

After a few trips pre-30th, I had started my list!! (See below).

My list continued to grow and after next weekend, (a week past my actual birthday) I should have completed my 30 trips with a road trip to Nashville, stopping in different cities to dine, shop or play, because if you don't do anything in that city (aka driving through or a layover in an airport) it doesn't count!!

From extravagant trips to regional road trips, I have made a busy schedule for myself, my boyfriend and any friend that was looking to get away for a weekend!

Top favs? I would have to say Seattle, Vegas for Gretchen's 30th, Atlanta to see family and of course the tropical cruise Kevin and I went on which landed us in Haiti, Jamaica and Cozumel.

Why did I do this? To experience more of what life has to offer. Columbus is great don't get me wrong, but there is so much more out there including surrounding cities, states and of course foreign countries!

To read the full Capital Style article, click HERE.

And to all of you that are looking to do something this year, set your sights on something new, whether it be travel, exercise, a hobby or just thinking outside the box.

Eventing off,
Miss C.S.

It's time to Shine, you Hot Mama, you!

To continue the trend from my past few posts on Moms and Mother's Day coming up, I wanted to tell you about my experience at a new store at Easton Town Center called Hot Mama!

At first glance, you may think this is a maternity clothing store by its name. But it's NOT!

The story behind the name comes from the first time founder and CEO Megan Tamte went out to buy post-baby clothes and after a tearful trip to Nordstrom with a reality that her body had changed post-baby, she decided she never wanted another new mom to feel this way.

Seven years later from that moment, Megan and her husband opened their first store in Edina, Minnesota.

With a variety of styles, sizes and personal assistance in-store, Hot Mama makes women (moms and non moms) feel confident and embrace their "hotness".

Being a non Mom, I hadn't really thought about stopping into the store at Easton Town Center because as I mentioned above, I did think it was for Moms. But oh, how I was wrong.

I was welcomed by store manager Bry who was so helpful in finding clothes for my body type and my style.

From designer jeans (Hudson anyone?!) to cute maxi dresses, shoes, blouses and jewelry, Hot Mama makes you focus on your assets and not your flaws! Check out some of my in-store photos.

One of my favorite looks was this maxi dress, sandals and hat! Perfect for your next getaway or a Saturday night Gallery Hop!

Hot Mama even caters to the kids. When Mom shops, the kids can enjoy a few animal crackers! How cute is this!!??!!

Hot Mama's manifesto?! See below! I love it!

They even empower women with tshirts with such a TRUE message! A little backwards, but you get it! :) THINK HAPPY, BE HAPPY! :)

So Moms and Non Moms, be sure to check out Easton's Hot Mama store to find the perfect outfit for your next vacation, date night or to update your spring wardrobe. Hot Mama will make you feel confident, powerful and beautiful!

For more information and to shop online at Hot Mama, visit www.shopmama.com.

Hot Mama is located in Fenlon Square at Easton Town Center.
