Columbus Socialite of the Week: KARINA NOVA

TGIF and a chilly one it is here today!

Hope all of you heading down to Highball Halloween tonight have warm costumes!

As for Halloween weekend approaching, and ghouls and gals are out celebrating, I will be posting some creative recipes that you can serve at your Halloween party this weekend, so stay tuned!

Now on to my Columbus Socialite of the Week.

She’s talented, beautiful, smart, fun, and savvy and has a great heart. I’ve gotten to know her through the years after meeting her through a friend of mine who married her brother! And via another Socialite of the Week, Miss Bethany Braden!

She’s modeled in Kinder Key’s “Denim & Diamonds” and has been involved in many charities. And lucky for all of you, you can watch her every weekday morning on 10TV news!

Since graduating from Kent State University, she has lived in Columbus and “just can’t seem to part ways with the city,” she says. As an avid traveler, she loves to brag about Columbus and all the great things we have here.

So who is this Columbus-devotee, fashionista, jet-setter and local celeb?

Traffic and general assignment reporter for 10TV News

Miss C.S. - By far Favorite thing to do in Columbus:

KN: I love our parks! Everything from Goodale, to Antrim Park, to Sharon Woods in Westerville. On a great weather day, it's fun to ride a bike, walk or rollerblade at any of these (yes, I still have my rollerblades from the 90's). And not too far from Columbus, Hocking Hills is always a beautiful place to visit.

Miss C.S. - Favorite Restaurant in the City:

KN: I love any place with a great patio, so sitting by the windows at Marcella's or on the patio at Sushi Rock is always fun. But if I could afford it, I'd eat at M every week! (Me too, Karina!)

Miss C.S. - Favorite Hidden Gem:

KN: I know this isn't in Columbus, but a short drive away is a great brewery called Rockmill Brewery. The brewery is on a beautiful farm in Lancaster, OH. If you can, try to set up a tour, I promise you'll be impressed! You can also find this beer at some local restaurants. It's definitely worth a try.

While we're talking about drinks, have you ever tried Tessora Limone? If you haven't, you're missing out! It's a creamy lemoncello liquor made right here in New Albany. They have it at some local restaurants and you can buy at Hills Market.

Miss C.S. - Favorite Shop/Store:

KN: It used to be Collier West, but sadly they closed. I love what Homage is doing with their shirts.

Miss C.S. - Best Party or Scene in the City:

KN: The Short North area.

Miss C.S.. – Favorite local celebrity:

KN: Everyone at 10TV :) And Thad Matta...I hope the guys go all the way this year!

Miss C.S. – Charity of Choice:

KN: I'm on the board of the Fairy Goodmothers. So, I'll have to choose us!:)

Miss C.S. - Best Quality of a Person:

KN: Being Genuine

Miss C.S. – When did you decide you wanted to go into TV/Journalism:

KN: I learned English as a second language when I was 8 years old. And I fell in love with the English language while learning it. I love writing and reading. Plus, I have a curious personality and love being the first to know everything. That's pretty much what I do now; I learn news first and pass it on to our viewers. Plus, it's always rewarding to cover stories that make an impact on our community or in someone's life.

Miss C.S. - If you weren't a news reporter, what would you want to do:

1. Teacher, I love working with kids. Plus, I think having a good education can go a long way.
2. FBI Agent, I participated in the FBI Citizens Academy last year, it was awesome! Those guys do great work and they're pretty bad ass!
3. Traveling Food Blogger, because I love traveling and food!

Miss C.S. – You're very involved in the community. Tell us more about the organizations you volunteer for:

KN: I'm a mentor to an adorable 3rd grader named Josephine. I do that through Project Mentor. I'm also on the Board of the Fairy Goodmothers. And I've been fortunate to have hosted several events that benefit the United Way of Central Ohio, Nationwide Children's Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House. Plus, I always support anything for Breast Cancer Research.

Miss C.S. – You're on the Board of Fairy Goodmothers which provides prom dresses to teens that can't afford them in our community. What made you want to get involved with that organization and how long have you been involved?

KN: Last year I was asked to help at the Cinderella's Closet event. That's when high school girls come in and we help them find prom dresses, kind of like their personal shoppers. But, these girls receive the dresses, shoes and jewelry for free! Seeing the look on their face when they find the perfect dress is just amazing. These are girls that otherwise, wouldn't be able to afford going to prom. Many of us have that memory of our senior prom, and this organization makes it possible for these young ladies to have a magical night without worrying about the cost. Please "like" us on facebook to find out more...!/pages/Fairy-Goodmothers/

Miss C.S. – Any big events for them that are coming up:

KN: Yes! We have our Party for Prom Fundraiser coming up. It's a blast! It will be at Park Street Saloon in the Arena District on Sunday, January 29, 2012. It's a party you don't want to miss! We are excited to share our partnership with Columbus Monthly's Ten Best New Restaurants Issue. At the event, you'll be able to taste delicious treats from restaurants featured in the magazine. We'll also have great silent auction items, a raffle and entertainment. Don't forget, money raised at the event helps high school girls in our community have the prom of their dreams! The cost is $35, which includes 2 drink tickets.

Miss C.S. - You're also very stylish. What are you favorite trends right now and do you have a favorite brand:

KN: Thanks for the compliment, Ashley! I'm one of those people that shops everywhere and wears everything! I love shopping while traveling, that way I find unique clothes that you couldn't find here. My favorite trend right now is pretty simple, straight leg jeans with a cute pair of booties, a sparkly top to match with a little jacket.

Miss C.S. - Finish the sentence, “If I could do anything in the World, I would...”

KN: Travel the world.

Miss C.S. – Why Columbus? (live, work, play – you name it)

KN: It has everything! Fun, fashion, great entertainment, wonderful people and great opportunities!

Miss C.S. - In ONE word, a Columbus Socialite is:

KN: Confident

Thank you Karina for your interview and looking forward to seeing you at Columbus Socialite's One-Year Anniversary Party on Thursday, November 10 from 7-9 p.m. at Camelot Cellars. To rsvp to the event, please click here.
