What's in MARK MATTHEW WARD'S BAG(S)!

Happy Hump Day! Today I read in Cosmo magazine 50 things that we should have not stopped doing with #1 being "Listening to the Spice Girls". This actually made me laugh and remember when yes, I really did have a Spice Girls poster in my bedroom closet. HA! I'm going to re-post the entire article later this week as I'm sure you'll all get a few chuckles out of it. But with that, it also said to always celebrate Hump Day as well as Sunday Funday.

So we should all have a lot to celebrate today as it is half way through the work week and The Fourth of July is on the horizon. Cookouts, pool parties, socializing and gatherings, let alone fireworks, family and friends are soon to come. This should all get you geared up thinking about the weekend and another reason to celebrate Hump Day today.

My hump days are based on featuring someones "What's in my Bag" story as well as another day crossed off the calendar for August to get here sooner with an amazing vacation planned.

So with that, Happy Hump Day to all as we celebrate the Fourth, our troops overseas, summer and today, What's in Mark Matthew Ward's bags. Yes, not bag, but bags!

This stylish lad has everything from the hottest items to the best bag. I was fortunate enough to meet Mr. Ward during my days working at The New Albany Classic Invitational Grand Prix & Family Day. (This year is marked for Sunday, September 25 and it's an amazing event with even a better cause of benefiting the Columbus Coalition Against Family Violence which you should all attend.)

Mark Matthew has always been such a great and sweet guy, not to mention super savvy and dressed to the nines, which is why I just had to feature him and his bags for What's in my Bag Wednesdays.

WHAT'S IN MARK MATTHEW WARD'S BAG(S):

A note from Mark Matthew:
I do not carry a brief case, back pack, or a gym bag to work like some guys. I carry a Coach black messenger bag with a really cool bright cobalt blue interior with lots of storage. I bought the messenger bag at the Coach factory store in Jeffersonville and I got a great price on it. It is an awesome messenger bag for a well dressed young professional. Several people who see the bag at work, want it or asks where I got it.

1. iPhone.

2. I always have mints on me, never gum. Cinnamon Altoids are my favorite. Yes, they have sugar in them. I do not like sugar free stuff as it has too many problems with it.

3. Hand sanitizer

4. A white cotton hanky. I always carry one with me. My Mom always told her boys, that gentlemen always have a white cotton hanky with them. My dad and brother always carry one also.

5. Charger for iPhone and iPod

6. iPod with Bose earbuds. I need that awesome music like they play at Abercrombie & Fitch to get my projects done.

7. Puffs tissues

8. Kiehls travel size lotion

9. Claritin, allergy season

10. Aspirin in case of a stroke or heart attack

11. Opti-Free replenish rewetting drops and a Contact case with an extra pair of contacts

12. Salvatore Ferragamo prescription eye glasses in high gloss black plastic, just in case it is a long day or my contacts are fighting with my eyes.

13. Prada wrap high gloss black plastic with dark lenses sunglasses. My bright sparkling green eyes are sensitive to bright light.

14. OSU writing pen, I love the team!

15. Nexcare waterproof bandages, Neosporin cream, Curad telfa pads with adhesive tabs, in case of a big cut.

16. Tazo Zen green tea. I need my tea in the morning. Venti Starbucks wet cap in the afternoon. The only way I get caffeine in my system. I gave up drinking coke because of the calories and I passed twin kidney stones last year - worse pain that I ever had in my life!!

17. My ID for work, with the red OSU clip on it! I have to show support of the team at all times. O-H....IO!

18. Change for meters

19. Binder and paper clips

20. Travel grooming kit from Nordstrom

21. Acqua Di Gio travel size cologne. The only other cologne I wear is Woods by Abercrombie and Fitch.

22. I recently cut my hair shorter. With natural curly hair I need Moroccan Oil light (love the smell of it) to control the curls and keep it straight in the Ohio humidity, or my hair will look like Beavis. I also use L'oreal Professional Homme 5 force Clay to keep my hair in place.

23. My black with scarlet Block-O ball cap. I love the team, this hat comes in handy when it is raining or if my hair is not being a team player.

24. The wrist band from the A&F Challenge 5K. It reminds me that I can rise to the challenge, and at the end there is always a finish line. This is an awesome charity event with a great after party in classic Abercrombie style.

Charity is a big part of my life. I give to charities but I also like to help local charities by doing volunteer work every year. The New Albany Classic is one of my favorite charity events in the fall and it is also where I met the very pretty and talented Ashley Curl (aw, thanks MMW) :). The Classic is a world class equestrian event in New Albany, that raises money for the Columbus Coalition Against Family Violence.

Now to my other bag. (Yes, I have two bags). My LL Bean boat tote with black trim has MMW embroidered on it...I am so preppy, I know! This bag is my food for work. Some guys carry those dorky looking nylon lunch bags, mini coolers or a plastic grocery bags with lunch in it. Not this guy. I put my red LL Bean lunch bag in my boat tote. I am a big follower of five small meals during the day and portion control. This helps me control what I am eating to maintain the body I work so hard for and want.

Here's What's in Bag #2:

1. Chobani Greek yogurt
2. Salad with fish or chicken
3. Fruits and nuts
4. Babybel cheese
5. Oatmeal with dried cherries
6. La Croix sparkling water in a can, the grapefruit is so good.
7. LL Bean stainless steel water bottle, with MMW engraved on it. The water bottle is personalized, environmentally friendly, plus it reminds me to drink water and not coke.
8. My stainless steel Starbucks travel mug, it looks like a Starbucks cup!

As you can see Mark Matthew is very, very prepared, trendy and would win Let's Make a Deal any day! Thanks for being featured MMW in today's What's in my Bag post!

If you'd like to be featured or would like to feature another item such as car, locker, room, closet, etc. on a Wednesday, please email ashleyecurl@yahoo.com.

Columbus Socialite of the Week: NICK MARKLEY

Happy Friday as I'm blogging live from Minneapolis, Minnesota!

Ironically, I haven't been to Minnesota since I was two years old. I was born in St.Paul, Men-ta-soooota. If you haven't been here, it's very similar to Columbus. It's just a whole lot colder in the winter with a crazy amount of more snow...and we, in Columbus, think we have it bad! Although at times during our dreary months from January to March, I'd take their winters in a heartbeat since at least they have sunshine!

Let's stop talking winters and get on to summer! As of yesterday, Happy Summer! If you're looking for plans this weekend and great people watching, don't miss COMFEST!

For a nice dinner out, I've got just the place for you which leads me to my Columbus Socialite of the Week.

Do you want some of the best steak, seafood and wine, including over 200 of the world's finest labels? How do housemade sides such as Jalapeno scalloped, forest mushrooms and buttered asparagus sound? Is your mouth watering yet?

If so, head to 1408 Polaris Parkway and dine in at Mitchell's Steakhouse.

General Manager Nick Markley has graciously offered FREE DESSERT for all COLUMBUS SOCIALITE READERS!

All you have to do is mention Columbus Socialite during your meal and Nick Markley's featured post and free dessert will be on its way! (Polaris location only) How's that for keeping up with all the latest happenings in Columbus!

So what does the GM love about Columbus? Does he have a favorite restaurant other than Mitchell's?

What's in Emma Frankart's Bag?

Emma Frankart is not only a talented writer for Columbus Monthly, but she's also a fashionista with an amazing blog that you should check out.

It's called Verbal Melange.

Melange is French and means mixing/blending in English, which is why her blog is "A mashup of style, food and anything else that interests her right now."

So what does this stylish journalist carry in her purse? Everything to be prepared!

WHAT'S IN EMMA FRANKART'S BAG?

1. A giant wallet. My friend calls this my "mom wallet" because it holds EVERYTHING, including my checkbook.

2. Coach wristlet with loose change in it.

3. Car/house keys.

4. Mary Kay bag with all the essentials--ibuprofen, Tums, my migraine medication, lotion, Renu eyedrops (my contacts get itchy sometimes), oil-absorbing face blotters, gum, feminine products, hair ties, bobby pins and chap stick. It's like its own purse inside my purse!

5. A small flip-open wallet thing with my business cards and membership cards to stores like Staples, Sephora and Kroger.

6. A notebook, my favorite pen, a Sharpie and my digital voice recorder. I'm such a prepared journalist.

7. My iPod touch and headphones.

8. A brochure from a luncheon I went to yesterday. I also tend to hoard receipts and other bits of paper in here at times.

9. Tissues.

10. A little coin my mom gave me. It has a quote from the poem "Footsteps"--"It was then that I carried you." I'm not deeply religious, but I always have this little token on me anyway. Makes me smile when I dig around in this monster of a bag and happen to grab it.

11. Not in my bag today, but usually can be found in there most times: my GPS, an umbrella if it's supposed to rain, and fruit, power bar or some other snack. I snack a lot.

Thanks for sharing Emma and Happy Belated Birthday!

Be sure to check out Emma's blog, www.verbalmelange.blogspot.com and Verbal Melange's Facebook page.

HOLY MOLY...I'M MEETING BRITNEY ON STAGE!

Monday was off to a great start yesterday! I had just talked to Zach in Iraq on my way to work and got into the office with my yummy venti bold coffee with a splash of soy milk and two splendas.

As I was sitting at my desk, emailing and starting my day-to-day duties, a thought had crossed my mind that they must had already picked the Grand Prize Winner to meet Britney Spears in Cleveland. Now before I continue, here is the back story.

Thursday night, I was on my way home from Pure Barre and I had just talked to my parents on the phone who were at my house, organizing my basement...GOD BLESS THEM! If anyone had seen my laundry room, you know it looked like a tornado meets Horders. ha!

So I offered to pick up some Asian Gourmet (yum) and head back to the house.

As I was driving I heard on WNCI 97.9, "For a chance to meet Britney Spears on stage, call now."

Are you kidding me, I couldn't pick up my cell phone faster to try and win this opportunity of a lifetime!

Ring, ring...oh my gosh, no way! I knew at that instant I was going to get through (or I had hoped)....

"Hello" says the lady on the other end.
Me - "Are you doing a giveaway now to meet Britney?"
Her- One second please.
DJ- Hey! Who's this?
Me- Ashley and I love Britney Spears! :)

After the DJ and I talked about Mr. Weiner and if I preferred hot dogs or brats, I was told I won a chance to meet Britney and they were picking the grand prize winner on Monday Morning. AHHHH I couldn't be excited that at least I had a CHANCE of winning.

Back to Monday morning.

It's 9:15 a.m. and all of a sudden an UNKNOWN NUMBER calls me.

"OMG". I knew it was WNCI calling.

Me- "Hello"
Person on phone - "Is this Ashley"
Me - Yeeeeeesss! (Starting to raise my voice and get excited as I'm running out the back door of the office to the parking lot.)
Dave - Hey! This is Dave Kaelin from WNCI. Did you enter anything recently at our station?
ME - OMG, Yes, Britney on Thursday night!
Dave - Jimmy, go ahead and tell her...
Jimmy - You're going to meet Britney Spears on Stage!! (Everyone starts screaming at the station)
Me- Omg, Omg, I'm shaking, I'm going to start crying...Are you serious!
Them - Don't cry, don't cry!

Now, I'm screaming, they're screaming and they tell me that not only am I going to meet Britney Spears on stage at her Cleveland concert, but I'm going to get (2) tickets to the concert and a $100 gas card from Kroger!!! (Uncle Dana and Uncle Steve will be so proud).

The concert is Tuesday, July 26th and after speaking with the promotions department, they'll be sending me all the info, but apparently I get to dance on stage with her and a few other winners during her song "I wanna go".
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

And P.S. To all my friends out there (and sisters), no making fun of Ashley dancing aka jumping up and down with one arm in the air! :)

I'll be practicing my moves from now until then as well as all the lines to the song!

I checked out Britney's Facebook page, and here is a picture from her recent concert in San Jose where the winners there got to go on stage...so this will be me! CRAZY!!!!

Immediately after I hung up, I called Zach and was basically hyperventilating and could barely tell him I won. So basically he had to say "You just won Britney didn't you!" HA! While talking to him, Jenna my coworker comes running outside yelling, "I just heard you on the radio". Immediately following that, Kanto and Jessica texted me saying, I can't believe you won! HA!

I'm still in complete shock and am very thankful for Britney, WNCI and The Morning Zoo...THANK YOU FOR THIS AMAZING AND CRAZY OPPORTUNITY!

I'll be sure to Tweet, Facebook and Blog from Cleveland (I know, no surprise there) and will post pictures after the concert!

Below find some of the pictures from the 2009 Britney concert in Columbus. I'd also liked to share, I was always on Britney's side even when she shaved her head and was going through her dark days. GO BRITNEY!!

Columbus Socialite of the Week: MELISSA KASS

Happy Friday!

On this sunny day, there is so much going on this weekend! I'll get to more of that towards the end of this post as it's time to feature my Columbus Socialite of the Week!

She is by far the sweetest and most beautiful woman and I've enjoyed getting to know her over the past few years, including when I was on the event committee with her for BalletMet's Dance with the Dancers a couple years ago. She's always so kind and goes out of her way to say hello and make you feel welcome. She also has a caring heart as she's been heavily involved with Flying Horse Farms. Not only is she a great friend, but a wonderful wife and mother of two.
So who is the Fabulous Friday Feature...

GETTING TO KNOW...MELISSA KASS

Miss C.S. - By far Favorite thing to do in Columbus:

MK: Anything outside in the nice weather with my husband, kiddos and friends!

Miss C.S. - Favorite Restaurant in the City:

MK: Rigsby's

Miss C.S. - Favorite Hidden Gem:

MK: Vonn Jazz & Supperclub

Miss C.S. - Favorite Shop/Store:

MK: Rowe Boutique

Miss C.S. - Best Party or Scene in the City:

MK: Best Party: BalletMet's Dance with the Dancers!
MK: Best Scene: Gallery Hop in the Short North. The people watching and the energy is fantastic!

Miss C.S. - Best Quality of a Person:

MK: Loyalty

Miss C.S. - Charity of Choice:

MK: Flying Horse Farms

Miss C.S. - Craziest thing you’ve bought:

MK: Hmmmm....I almost ended up with a pair of blue sequined leggings not too long ago. Thankfully common sense prevailed! So, I guess it would be the hot pink hair extensions I purchased for my daughter's Halloween costume.

Miss C.S. – What got you involved with Flying Horse Farms:

MK: When my daughter was born, we were blindsided by an undiagnosed arrhythmia when she was only 7 days old. We spent almost 2 weeks at Nationwide Children's Hospital while the doctors worked to find the right combination of medications to control her racing heart. I can remember feeling terrified, broken hearted and powerless to help her. It made me so sad to think that she might not have the childhood we had envisioned for her and completely taken for granted. Luckily, it is something that we have been able to manage and she lives her life without any physical restrictions. However, I will never forget how it feels to be a parent of a sick child facing the possibility of a "new normal" and having to adjust your expectations accordingly.

Flying Horse Farms was the perfect opportunity for me and my whole family to give chronically/terminally ill children a chance to experience a piece of childhood that would have seemed impossible - a trip to camp! At camp, they are able to forget about their health problems and just be a kid. At FHF, they spend a week camping with other kids who have the same disease as they do. This gives them a chance to relate to their peers, and make friends in a way that they are not comfortable enough to do in a real world setting. The emotional support they gain from each other is invaluable! On the flip side, it also provides their parents with an opportunity to see their kids have a blast and come home REALLY, REALLY happy!

Miss C.S. – How can people get involved with Flying Horse Farms:

MK: Visit our website www.flyinghorsefarms.org for volunteer opportunities, and lists of outstanding items that are still needed for the camp. Or, host an event with your business associates, friends and family that would be interested in learning more about our mission and supporting it! We also conduct tours of the camp for those who want to know more...it's an amazing place to see and be. It will literally change your life.

Miss C.S. – What other nonprofits are you involved with around town:

MK: BalletMet, TWIG and Lifeline of Ohio

Miss C.S. – What makes a non-profit gala stand out from another:

MK: The guest list! Fun people are always a must for a successful event!

Miss C.S. - Finish the sentence, “If I could do anything in the World, I would…”

MK: Alleviate all suffering. (just a small thing, right?)

Miss C.S. - In ONE word, a Columbus Socialite is:

MK: Open-minded

Melissa, you are a true gem and treat for this community. Thank you for all you do. You are an amazing and talented lady!

Before listing a couple events to check out this weekend, check out this recent clip on NBC4 featuring Flying Horse Farms. Click here for clip.

First off, "Happy 30th Anniversary" to Stonewall Columbus as they celebrate Pride today and tomorrow at Goodale Park! I'll be working The Other Paper booth, so be sure to stop by! Details of the event can be found at http://www.stonewallcolumbus.org. You do not want to miss the Pride Parade tomorrow at 12 p.m.! I can't wait!

What's in my Bag!

Happy Hump day!

Okay, you all asked for it, so here it is...What's inside MY bag!

I decided to feature my bag today because I was laughing to myself when I looked over to see my purse OVERflowing with fruit, sunglasses, a lint roller, lotion, and some of the most random items ever. I may even have to feature another bag (depending on the outfit I'm wearing) which can hold even more, I know...how can it be possible! I've been told it's my carryon suitcase (sneak peak here)

So here it goes...a little scary I know!

WHAT'S IN MY BAG:

1. The bag is a Coach purse I bought at the charity event "Power of the Purse" raising money for Red Cross and the victims of the Alabama storms

2. A lint roller - I have a white cat (Kitty)...enough said.

3. Hair Spray - For all that know me well, I always carry hair spray on me whether my hair is wavy or to spritz down fly aways...it's a must to have a mini bottle in my purse when going out. This time it's the big guy in my bag.

4. Ray-Ban Sunglasses/Case - Just got a new pair with my Nordstrom gift card for my birthday! (Thanks Shell)

5. Make-Up - For touchups needed throughout the day

6. Coach wallet - Although stuffed with miscellaneous items, I bought it in Destin, Florida two years ago at my sister's (Leigh Ann) Bachelorette Party...can we just say 26 girls in one house...enough said as well ;) But a great time!!!

7. True Blue Spa paraffin hand lotion - I've been good not biting my cuticles, so I have to keep them moist!

8. Jimmy Choo sunglasses - One of my amazing co-chairs for BalletMet's Dance with the Dancers event in 2010 gave these to me as a gift for chairing!

9. Car Keys!

10. Columbus Pride brochure - I picked one up at the 30th Anniversary Dinner last Monday at Hubbard Grille as The Other Paper is sponsoring the event. Make sure you stop by TOP's booth this weekend as I'll be working!

11. Black/Gold Wristlet with my credit cards, ID, business cards and Clinique's lipstick inside!

12. BuyBuy Baby coupon - This will come in handy for Leigh Ann's baby shower gift!

13. Sugar Free Ice Breakers (or as my 4-year-old niece Presley use to call them "Ipaypays")

14. Free Pint Card at Fado Irish Pub! (I should really put this to use!)

15. Receipts, receipts and more receipts...I still don't know why I keep them.

16. Pens, Highlighters and Sharpies!

17. Anti-bacterial gel

19. Aleve (although this is the only over the counter drug in here, I'm usually good for Tums, Advil, band-aids and Tylenol)

20. Camera! You know me...I LOVE TAKING PICTURES! This is the one I won from Kodak for my Halloween costume as the Orbit Gum Girl last fall!

21. Banana for breakfast, apple for mid-morning snack, almonds for late-day snack

So there you have it! Even though I have more stuff I'll keep to myself or another post later, you just got a sneak peak of all the crap inside my purse!

If you're lucky, I may feature one day "what's inside my wallet"....you don't even want to know...and I don't even know what really is inside of it, because I know it's not money! :) See a teaser picture below.

What's in my bag is back and this week I'm featuring one of my fabulous sisters who just recently had another baby, Dylan Ann.

Shelley is always on the go, always, and is definitely a super Mom, so when it comes to being prepared, she has to make sure her diaper bag is filled with all the necessities!

Shelley's munchkins and my nieces and nephew are 10-years-old (Ryleigh), 8-years-old (Alex), 4-years-old (Presley) and born on March 9th Miss Dylan.

So what does Shelley keep in her bag of tricks?

1. Diapers

3. Changing pad
4. Mini Munchkin Diaper case for quick trips
5. Burp Cloth
6. Extra outfit - Zebra print outfit from Nana (It could have easily been from Aunt Ashley)
7. Binkie and binkie wipes
8. Munchkin case with plastic bags for disposing dirty diapers
9. Band-aids for older siblings
10. Sunscreen for older siblings
11. Baby Acetaminophen

I'm back from my hiatus!

Hey All,

I apologize for the 2-week hiatus but I'm back this week with a new "what's in my bag" post along with a great Friday feature for Socialite of the Week.

I've been in NYC for work and play it made me realize how much I love the city (especially NYC but really, any big city) and how much Columbus has grown over the past years with new restaurants, boutiques and stores popping up all around town, let alone all the events.

One annual event that's always a must-to-attend is the Memorial Tournament which is where I just got back from this evening. Thanks to Live Tech, one of my fabulous vendors and Columbus Monthly Magazine for being a sponsor at "The House" on the 18th green. I had an incredible day with great friends.

If you can attend any day next year, I highly recommend going on Friday as it's filled with Blue Jackets, Crew players, OSU alums, media personalities and many business community members. With over 1,000 people this past Friday inside the house and having gone through over 45 cases of liquor, sounds like this year was bigger than ever.

I'd like to congratulate one of the golfers on a multi-million dollar win, but due to a rain delay, the tourney is still in play. Sorry Megs, not sure if you're future hubby was a winner. :)

But stay tuned this week for more event posts including an event for Dress for Success , "Taste" this Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at M in Miranova.

Eventing off on Sunday Funday,
Miss C.S.
