Another week in the books!
ComFest, or the official name “The Community Festival” kicks off this weekend with tons of free music, vendors and lots of great people watching! Held in Victorian Village at Goodale Park, it’s sure to be a fun time with free spirits all around.
The festival attracts many walks of life and in past years there was always one person I knew I could count on to be there and go with...one of my besties from college.
From the first day we met freshmen year of college, before school officially started (she played soccer and I played basketball) I knew this funny, witty girl from PA (also her nickname) would be a forever friend.
After 4 years of being in the same sorority, living together for two and getting into who-knows-what with one another, she moved back to Pennsylvania to go to grad school and be closer to her family.
She’s a great gal who can always make you laugh with her one-liners and is a good friend.
This once-a-time-ago hippie and free spirit from Lancaster County, PA, is now all grown up and is working as a lobbyist in Harrisburg. So who is my HONORARY Columbus Socialite of the Week...
GETTING TO KNOW...ANGIE (ANGELA) GOHN

Miss C.S. - By far Favorite thing to do in Columbus:
AG: Well since moving to the great state of Pennsylvania, the far best thing for me to do in Columbus is catch up with everyone I miss. Be that shopping, grabbing a cocktail, or just walking around the Short North. It is all amazing.
Miss C.S. - Favorite Restaurant in the City:
AG: You cannot go wrong with Schmidt’s.
Miss C.S. - Favorite Hidden Gem:
AG: After my last visit I would have to say the service and food was ‘amazeballs’ at Denovo Bistro.
Miss C.S. - Favorite Shop/Store:
AG: Homage...Yes and Yes.
Miss C.S. - Best Party, Event or Scene in the City:
AG: I would have to say the Columbus Museum of Art. Being an art therapy major in Columbus, the museum was a meca. They get very good exhibitions there and always have fun things going on.
Miss C.S. – Favorite local celebrity:
AG: Lewis Howes...LOL the Handball player/Forbes writer who went to Capital too!
Miss C.S. – Charity of Choice:
AG: Here in Pennsylvania, I am a junior board member of the YWCA.
Miss C.S. - Best Quality of a Person:
AG: Humor. I don’t care if you lie, cheat, and steal… if you are funny about it, I may give you a pass (such a downfall in me) haha
Miss C.S. – What do you miss most about Columbus:
AG: Besides Miss C...I would have to say the pace. I had no idea how slow and nonchalant people where until I moved back to the Eastern Part of Pennsylvania. Driving between Harrisburg and Philadelphia make Columbus look like a cake walk. I know here if you say you will be somewhere at 2, show up at 1:45. From what I recall, 2 means anywhere between 1:30 and 3pm to those I know in Columbus.
Miss C.S. – Comfest is this weekend. What’s your favorite Comfest memory:
AG: There are so many that were amazing, and I’m sure so many I cannot remember for one reason or another. I would have to say the sense of community that this festival brings definitely lives up to its name. There were people from all over and they were all talking and dancing and drinking and genuinely having a wonderful time being around each other. Not to sound too “earthy” but that human characteristic of loving strangers is rarely seen in public now- a-days.
Miss C.S. – What advice would you give Comfest newbies:
AG: Don’t eat the brownies...no, I kid (kinda). Seriously make sure you take the time to walk through all of the vendors. There are amazing local artists that have gems you will not find anywhere else. Some of the best earrings I still wear I bought there. You have to realize that Columbus is really not that big. Philadelphia has events like this, but they could become overwhelming or even broken up in to different sectors of the city. ComFest is a collaboration of all the areas. It’s phenomenal.

Miss C.S. –In one word, how would you describe Comfest:
AG: Unique
Miss C.S. – What is one thing people may not know about you:
AG: Well, that’s a hard question. I am pretty much an open book. However, it does seem to be ironic to most who know me from Columbus that I am a contract lobbyist. Yes, I sold out. This crunchy chick now rocks a suit and knows who Cole Haan is...what happened to me?!
Miss C.S. - Finish the sentence, “If I could do anything in the World, I would...”
AG: ...Join the Circus.
Miss C.S. – Why Columbus? (live, work, play – you name it)
AG: Why not Columbus...It is a Gem. No one who has not visited or lived there does not understand the dynamic of the city. From OSU to German Village, to parades and football games to Mascarade Balls and Social Events, there is always something going on. It is not too large, nor is it too small. There is a strange sense of community that ranges many neighborhoods in the city that I have not found elsewhere.
Miss C.S. - In ONE word, a Columbus Socialite is:
AG: A Feeling.
Thanks Ang and I miss you too!
I hope you all get to take-in the weekend that you will oh–so-not be disappointed in. Oh and don’t be surprised and if you get a free shot of some of the ladies down there...it’s all fair game at ComFest.
Hugs & Kisses to my bestie Ang and I’ll see you in a few short weeks for Shell’s wedding.
Enjoy your weekend.
Eventing off,
Miss C.S.
